Ken Iwata Mother and child Museum

A sculpture museum built in the grounds of a lodging facility that used to be the site of the now closed Munakata Elementary School. Ken Iwata, studied how to make sculptures at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts (currently known as the Tokyo University of the Arts). Ken Iwata has been creating sculptures for about 60 years. The museum exhibits 44 sculptures centered around the theme of ''mother and child''. Inside and outside the musuem you will be able to find many statues of mothers with their children on display. Other sculptures showcase children praying for peace.

In the summer of 2011, Ken Iwata, who is known for his warm sculpting style, exhibited works on the theme of "Mother and Child." The museum was opened as a semi-outdoor exhibition space with many benches to sit on. From the comfort of a bench you can ejoy the sculptures at you own leasure while simultaneously feeling the light breeze of the Seto Inland Sea. The architecture of the museum itself by Toyo Ito is also one of the highlights to see.
Akira and Mariko Senju, former student's of Ken Iwata at Keio Gijuku kindergarten kindly provided our museum with an originally composed song titled "Toki no Tobira".
In the hall, the song will be played and broadcast as "music that tells the time". There are two versions of the song with different lengths. The morning version (1 minute 46 seconds) will be broadcast at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 and 12:00. The evening version (2 minutes 17 seconds) will be broadcast at 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00 and 17:00.
