Oyamazumi Shrine

Oyamazumi Shrine is located on Omishima, the largest island of the Geiyo Islands. The island lies in the center of the Seto Islands National Park and is surrounded by islands of various sizes. Omishima is in the northernmost part of Ehime Prefecture and lies almost at the center of the Seto Inland Sea. Oyamazumi-jinja Shrine serves as a place of worship for sun goddess Amaterasu’s elder brother, Oyamazumi no Okami — a god of mountains, oceans, warfare and travel as described in the books of the Kojiki and the Nihonshoki

Oyamazumi Shrine, the guardian deity shrine of Japan

Oyamazumi Shrine is Ehime Prefecture's oldest shrine that is said to be the overall head shrine of the over 10,000 Yamazumi and Mishima Shrines around Japan.
In the center of the ground, there is a enshrined sacred camphor tree that is said to be about 2,600 years old. The camphor tree in the shrine was designated as a national natural monument in 1951 as the camphor tree is part of Japan's oldest primeval forest.
The shrine name stone (Dainippon Sochinju Oyamazumi Shrine) was written by Hirobumi Ito, the first Prime Minister of Japan on March 22 1907 to commemorate his visit to the shrine. In the old days, the Murakami Kaizoku and other warlords of the sea gathered to show their faith at the shrine. Both Mr. Kono and Mr. Murakami Kurushima used the divine crest of Oyamazumi Shrine, "Three characters on the folds" as their family crest.
